Comparison of test methods for measuring the net buoyant force of buoyant materials
2020
Net buoyant force is a crucial factor affecting the functional performance of clothing for water safety. In this study, an alternative method was developed for measuring the net buoyant force of various buoyant materials, such as buoyant fabrics, on a small scale in a more accurate and efficient way than the existing method.
Development of laid-in knitted fabric for buoyant swimwear
2020
As the use of buoyant swimwear by children in residential swimming becomes more common, the investigation of the effects of buoyant textiles is crucial for the optimisation of functional buoyant clothing design.
Creation of 3D printed fashion prototype with multi-coloured texture: a practice-based approach
2020
The use of three-dimensional printing is prevalent in many industries, including fashion industry. Three-dimensional printing has come into wide use in different industries including fashion industry.
Idea Exchange in the Pleats: Pleating Workshop as a Research Method
2020
This paper shares first-hand experience of feedback collection from workshop participants to revise the pleating technique.
Finite-element modelling of elastic woven tapes for bra design applications
2020
In the intimate apparel industry, the evaluation of bra designs has traditionally relied on the practical experience of designers. The limitations of conventional evaluation methods have rendered difficulties in analysing the effect of bra design features.
Effect of contacting surface on the performance of thin-film force and pressure sensors
2020
Flexible force and pressure sensors are important for assessing the wear comfort of tightly fitting apparel. Their accuracy and repeatability depend on the sensor itself and the contacting surface. Measurements of the contact pressure on soft surfaces like human skin tend to be erroneous, which could be due to incorrect sensor calibrations.
