Impact of bra usage on upper body measurements and biomechanical performance in tennis athletes

Symposium on Sports Science & Technology 2024

Sports bras play a crucial role in providing support and comfort for female athletes during physical activities. Tennis involves a combination of asymmetry movements with the dominant arm/side executing various strokes. Excessive bra pressure can induce high levels of discomfort, pain and limited body motion, particularly in the dominant arm and shoulder, which adversely affect sporting performance. Analysing the changes in body surface measurements and biomechanical performance in braless and sports bra conditions can provide valuable insights to improve the design of sports bras. This study aims to investigate the influence of sports bra on dynamic deformations and kinematic changes of the upper body during tennis movements.
